Introducing Kona

Last Friday the boys and I went to pick up the newest addition to our family, a Goldendoodle, which we have named Kona.  We had the opportunity to work with Wayne and Janice Mueller from Mueller’s Woodville Kennels, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a Goldendoodle.

The last couple of days have been eventful and so much fun with her.  The boys absolutely adore her, and she has already brought endless smiles, laughter, and that unconditional puppy love to our family.  Many may think we’re totally out of our minds getting a puppy this time of year, but the timing couldn’t be better.  It’s all about finding balance.

One question we’ve been asked several times is why the name Kona?  Most would assume it’s because the Ironman World Championship is held in Kona, and that’s a dream of mine to work to make it there, but the name Kona means so much more to our family than an Ironman race.  This morning we asked the boys why did they want our puppy named Kona and here are some of the responses we got:

  • “It may just be the closest thing that I get to that place Mom.  Unless if we keep working hard and one year its going to happen.”
  • “It’s totally awesome there.”
  • “Surfing dude….come on”
  • “Your and dad’s favorite place for sure.”

For Joel and I Kona symbolizes the following:

  • strength
  • perseverance
  • beauty
  • diligence
  • endless wonder
  • relaxation
  • adventure
  • friendship
  • love
  • new beginnings
  • laughter
  • wine and beets (a joke)
  • inspiration to be a better person in all areas of your life
  • encouragement to be a stronger and smarter athlete

So we thought it would only be fitting to name our new puppy Kona!  We all hope she has all the above attributes, and has many happy years with us.
